City Recommends Cowboys Sell Fewer 'Party Passes'

ARLINGTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― CBS 11 News has learned new information concerning the game party passes at Cowboys Stadium. The City of Arlington has recommended that the Dallas Cowboys lower the number of tickets for sale.

The recommendation comes after crowd control issues at the game on Sunday. The record crowd for the Cowboys home opening game led to complaints, police barricades, and crowding.

It was then, that a lot of dissatisfied fans complained, audibly, after being 'locked out' of the game, until just before kickoff. Some said they were pushed and shoved, or missed part of the game and didn't get what they'd paid for.

Thursday the City of Arlington and Dallas Cowboys officials agreed to limit the number of fans in the stadiums party decks to about 15,000-thousand. On Sunday some 30,000 fans bought the $29 party passes and competed for space in the standing room only areas overlooking the end zones.

Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck says safety is the main concern for the city. Not only did city officials ask the Cowboys to limit the number of party passes sold, but recommended they clarify where the passes allow fans to go.

Cowboys officials say party pass limits were already in place and that fans were emailed information about the limited access area it granted, 'if' room was available. And with the game setting a new NFL record of 105,121 in attendance, there was little room available.

As for creating more standing room only areas that may not be possible since most of those areas have no view of the field.

City leaders and public safety officials at the stadium plan to review the plan and prevent problems like those on Sunday, from happening again.

The general rule for party pass sales limits the number to 15,000 per game. A Cowboys spokesman told CBS 11 News that the team never intended to sell 30,000 party passes for regular season games, just for the special event of the first home game.
