NCAA Changes Ruling, Athlete Gets Scholarship
EULESS (CBS 11 News) ―
James Bradshaw has wanted to play college football since he was 6-years-old. The all district offensive lineman played on the Trinity Trojans state championship team.
The Euless Trinity High School student's hard work at Peddington Stadium paid off, but until now, he didn't think he was going to be able to cash in.
On July 21, NCAA officials said a "coding error" made him ineligible for a four-year scholarship to the University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff. However on Wednesday, Bradshaw's father told CBS 11 that the officials changed their mind.
The problem was over his original transcript. It indicates that he took an 8th grade Spanish class the NCAA won't recognize. 'Spanish B' should have read 'Spanish 1'.
"Somebody's misunderstanding something," his grandmother Carmelita Bradshaw exclaimed. "They're looking at something wrong. This is impossible."
"James Bradshaw did everything he was supposed to do. He took his class and everything is reflected in the transcript," said Judy Ramos with the HEB Independent School District.
Carmelita Bradshaw said the transcript misunderstanding should be a wakeup call to all North Texas parents. "We just want everybody to know that this could happen to their child."
