Dallas Mavericks guard J.J. Barea's surgery to repair cartilage damage in his left shoulder was successful.
The 6-foot Barea played about 20 minutes per game for the Mavericks this season. He averaged 7.8 points and 3.4 assists per game.
The team said Thursday that a timetable for his return has not been set.
