Oilers Edge Past Stars In Preseason Finale

DALLAS (AP) ― Jason Strudwick's tiebreaking goal early in the third period lifted the Edmonton Oilers to a 3-2 victory over the Dallas Stars on Sunday night in the preseason finale for both teams.

With the game even at 2, Strudwick's shot from just inside the blue line got past goalie Marty Turco, who was screened at 5:47.

Andrew Cogliano and Sheldon Souray also netted goals for the Oilers (2-2-3). Mathieu Garon made 39 saves.

B.J. Crombeen and Stephane Robidas scored for the Stars (1-5-1).

Cogliano's goal 1:11 after the opening faceoff put the Oilers in front.

Souray's shot from the point during the game's first power play beat a screened Turco 8:44 in to make it 2-0.

Crombeen's sharp-angle goal from the bottom of the left circle pulled Dallas within 2-1 at 11:01 of the first period, and Robidas' power-play goal at 14:46 tied it 2-2.

The Stars open the regular season Friday night, hosting Nashville. Edmonton will begin Sunday night at home against Colorado.
