TCU Receives $15 Million To Renovate Stadium

University Aims To Have "Camden Yards" Of College Football

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ― Texas Christian University has received a $15 million pledge to help renovate and upgrade Amon G. Carter Stadium. The pledge was presented to the university on Tuesday by the Amon G. Carter Foundation.

Officials want to turn the building into the "Camden Yards" of college football stadiums.

When the stadium opened in 1930, only the west side of the building had seats. Additional stands and seats were added in 1947 and 1948, increasing the building capacity to 33,000. A second deck was added to the building in 1956, upping the capacity to over 45,000.

The 78-year-old stadium was named after Amon G. Carter for his passion for TCU athletics and lead role in the stadium's initial fundraising efforts.

"The Carter Foundation recognizes that the football stadium remains one of the most visible landmarks on campus and in southwest Fort Worth," said John Robinson, executive vice president of the Foundation.

TCU Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr. said, "We are delighted and very grateful that the Carter Foundation determined to give TCU such a significant gift to help renovate the stadium."

"The gift also will help TCU continue building a distinctive university experience," Boschini said, "marked by excellent academic programs and facilities."
