Cowboys Add San Diego's Tra Battle To Roster
IRVING (AP) ―
Dallas signed defensive back Tra Battle off San Diego's practice squad Wednesday, and he could play Thursday for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys created a roster spot for Battle when they officially put rookie running back Felix Jones on injured reserve.
Coach Wade Phillips said Battle, who played only one game for the Chargers since signing as an undrafted free agent last year, could play on special teams against Seattle.
"It's been like a whirlwind," said Battle, who was doing charity functions in San Diego on Tuesday when he got told he was claimed by the Cowboys. "I'd like to think I am (ready to play)."
With safety and special teams Patrick Watkins bothered again by a neck injury that forced him to miss three games last month, the Cowboys wanted to add some depth.
Phillips said Battle "should be able to come in and play" if needed.
Jones sustained a torn ligament beneath his left big toe while doing rehabilitation on the left hamstring he hurt Oct. 12. The hamstring is healed, but the team last week that Jones would need surgery on the toe and up to six months to fully recover, and was done for the season.
The coach didn't have an update on left guard Kyle Kosier, who will be out Thursday and could miss the rest of the season. He reinjured his right foot Sunday, only the second game he had played since missing six in a row.
Montrae Holland, acquired from Denver at the end of training camp, is expected to start in Kosier's place Thursday. He has appeared in only two games as a lineman for the Cowboys.
Rookie cornerback Mike Jenkins (hamstring) is out against the Seahawks.
