Final Four Could Be Hosted At New Cowboys Stadium

ARLINGTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― The Cowboys new stadium in Arlington is looking to add the NCAA Final Four to an already impressive list of events after it opens next fall.

The North Texas Bid Committee returned to Dallas/Ft. Worth Wednesday afternoon after making a presentation to the NCAA about hosting a future Final Four Tournament at the Cowboys new stadium.

North Texas is one of 10 communities applying to become the hosts for the Final Four Men's basketball tournaments being played between 2012 and 2016.

A group including representatives from the Dallas Cowboys, Big Twelve Conference and civic leaders made a 45 minute, high-tech Power Point presentation to the NCAA in Indianapolis Wednesday morning.

In the presentation, the committee for the new stadium in Arlington proposed that their venue could hold a capacity of 90,000 in staging for a college basketball game.

The NCAA is not expected to announce their decision on the host locations until next week.

The Cowboys new stadium in Arlington is already scheduled to host the NBA All-Star game in 2010 and the Super Bowl in 2011. The new stadium will also host the Big XII Championship Football games in 2009 and 2010 and will be the home of the Cotton Bowl Classic game beginning in January of 2010.
