Make & Save Money At Plano Consignment Sale

PLANO (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― In order to Survive in '09, many people have started looking to consignment stores. They provide a way for families to make a little bit of money by selling used items. One of the largest second-hand sales in North Texas is happening this week in Plano.

The concept is simple: make money by selling items, save money by buying second-hand.

For people like Shannon Williams, the sale is one-stop shopping. It is a semi-annual event where she buys everything that her daughter needs. "I buy six months worth of stuff for her," said Williams. "Six months worth of clothes, of toys, everything."

Williams saves hundreds of dollars compared to retail, which is especially important these days. "My husband was laid off, one of many," she said.

At Divine Consign, there are racks of gently used children's clothing, toys, games and baby equipment like strollers. "We bought a plastic playhouse that retails for $300," said Williams. "And I spent $75."

Sale organizers said that they are seeing more customers this year compared to years past. "It's been huge," said Tina Teutsch, Divine Consign owner. "It took 25 minutes for the line to get in the door this morning. We had hundreds of people here today, so we've had big shopping."

And shoppers need not worry about combing through junk. All of the clothes and toys must be in good condition. "We're extremely picky about what we take," said Teutsch. "We go through and make things work and don't have stains."

And since the average items costs only $5, families are able to stretch their dollar. "We just can't afford retail. It's not in our budget. But we want to provide for our baby," said Williams.

The sale continues Monday and Tuesday at the Plano Convention Center, and there are certain hours when items are 75 percent off. Click here for more information.
