Dallas Woman Warns Of New Scam
By Marianne Martinez
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A Dallas woman, who didn't want to be identified, is warning others about a new scam.
She received a letter over the weekend in a priority mail envelope from a "company" that claimed she had won $1000 for concert tickets.
The woman said the company asked her for her Social Security Number so she could pay taxes on her "prize."
The company said the woman had been entered in the contest because she used her Citi credit card.
The woman became skeptical and called her credit card company, which confirmed the "prize" is a scam.
The Better Business Bureau says it has seen more scams recently because con artists are trying to take advantage of people during the economic downturn. The BBB says if you are ever skeptical about a scam you should contact them at
www.bbb.org.
