North Texan Looking For Work: Caleb Campbell
ARLINGTON (TXA 21 NEWS) ―
TXA 21 is helping North Texans Survive In '09 by featuring one unemployed person each week. So far nine people have found work after our profiles of them.
This week's candidate is Caleb Cambell. He's a student at the University of Texas at Arlington and is just weeks away from graduation.
But now comes the hard part: finding a job in an economy that is in shambles.
"I've been looking for work for about six months now," he said.
Campbell thought he was getting a jump ahead of the rest of the college graduating pack.
"I thought I started early enough," he said, "but in this market it is just hard to find a job out there right now."
Campbell, like so many other graduates, is finding that a downright unfriendly job market awaits them after graduation.
"Especially marketing," he said. "Every marketing position I've applied for, they've told me, 'Sorry, we're not just hiring right now.'"
In addition to doing an internship in his major, marketing, Campbell has done data entry in a medical office. He was also a bank teller. He has a part-time job, but the wage is low and there are no benefits.
He also has one more important thing to worry about: "I'm getting married in August," he said, "and that's stress because she's still a student. And I planned to find a job after I graduated and provide for her and I and that's the burden on my shoulders."
