Local Agency Hires Workers From '10 Til 2'

HURST (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― It's tough enough working as a stay-at-home mother. But imagine how tough it is for them to find work in this economy.

A local company is helping those moms, retirees and others survive in these times.

Rekha Kumar loves being at home with her son. But when he entered elementary school, she decided it was time to get a job.

"I wanted the money to be honest," said Kumar.

But the 41-year-old didn't want to be gone all day. So she was thrilled when she heard about a company called "10 til 2." The company places stay-at-home moms in long-term, part-time jobs.

"That was the most attractive thing for me, because I didn't want to put my son in day care. I still don't," said Kumar.

Kumar applied online and "within two weeks I got a job."

"Our candidates work from four hours to 30 hours a week," said Ramona Walden, 10 til 2 franchise owner.

Walden says the company was geared toward stay-at-home moms in the beginning, but now it places anyone with at least one year of college. She says the number of applicants is skyrocketing in the tough economy.

"We have people who have been laid off. We have people who took early retirement packages, and they're finding that their retirement money is not enough," said Walden.

"I was ready to get back out there," said employee Linda Northington. She worked at Verizon for 30 years before she retired.

Two years later, she applied at 10 til 2 and within a month she was back on the payroll doing administrative work for another company.

"I think every little bit helps," she said. "Why leave money on the table when you're able to get out and work?"

Walden says companies are more than willing to hire her applicants. "It allows them to pay just for what they need," she said.
