North Texan Looking For Work: James Schnetz
FORT WORTH (TXA 21 NEWS) ―
Unemployment moved to its highest level in 26 years last week. The new number show that more than 10-percent of American workers are now without a job. TXA 21 is trying to help people 'Survive in '09' by helping those looking for work.
This week's Get-A-Job Candidate is James Schnetz.
"I have a bachelor's degree with a journalism major from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire," Schnetz said of his credentials. "I have over 30 years of experience working as a print journalist."
But with all that experience Schnetz still became another casualty of the down economy and ever sinking job market. Six months ago he lost his job as a copy editor for the sports sections of the Dallas Morning News.
"I'm widowed. So I don't have an extra income coming from a spouse or a girlfriend or a significant other," he said. "So, it's just me and it's taking its toll."
Jim also has extensive experience as a bar manager and bartender, but he does have a dream job. "My ideal job would be in media relations for one of our pro sports franchises." But those jobs are at a premium even in a good economy.

Jim is willing to commit himself to any job that could benefit from his skills. "So I'm hoping that I find a job that allows me to utilize my background in journalism, my communication skills and my work in sports," he said.
Jim's skills could translate into many professions and he believes he'd be an asset to any company that hires him. "I'm diligent, dedicated, professional, with a strong work ethic, outstanding organizational skills and a keen eye for detail."
