Soldier Watches Daughter's Birth On The Internet
By Sana Syed
ARLINGTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Katherine and Mark Rivero spent the morning listening to their baby's heartbeat. The couple is getting ready to bring their third child into the world, even though Mark is thousands of miles away.
"It's still hard because he can't actually be here and hold me and hug me and all that," Katherine said as she fought back tears. "But just being able to hear his voice
yeah."
Mark is in the U.S. Army and is stationed in Iraq. But he was able to be by his wife's side thanks to Skype. "This technology, this is the best thing that came out," Mark said of the service that allowed the video phone call.
It was an emotional day for the Grand Prairie couple. Through her tears Katherine told her husband that she loved him and he told her she has no idea how much he misses her.
Via laptop computer Mark was 'next' to his wife as they waited on the arrival of their first daughter. "I hear her!" screamed Mark, after he heard Aubryana crying.
Mark even watched as baby Aubryana was cleaned up for the first time. "I was so happy. When I heard her voice I started crying."
This type of delivery is the first of its kind for Arlington Memorial Hospital. Keeping with the high-tech theme, workers even Tweeted about the arrival of little Aubryana.
The Rivero's already have two sons and they say Aubryana will be the last addition to their family. But Mark will have to wait one more year to hold his little princess who weighed in at five pounds, eight ounces.
Mark was also able to take pictures of his baby girl through Skype.
