AG Greg Abbott Stresses Keeping Child Info Current

Attorney General Hands Out Thousands Of Flash Drives To Store Personal Information

IRVING (AP) ― The attorney general handed out the flash drives at Texas Stadium encouraging parents to update the children's vital information and photos in the event of an emergency.

"I want to give this to you for free. It'll help you protect them," Abbott told several families, including Jeff Hubert, a father of three girls, who said he wants to be prepared in case an Amber Alert is necessary.

Juan Salinas agreed. "They can put out an Amber Alert, make posters, his information --- you know, get it out there as quick as possible."

Officials know sometimes kids just walk away or get lost. Panicky parents could lose valuable police time trying to pull documents and photos together.

"You don't want to be lost, do you?" concerned dad Antonio Sanchez, Jr. asked his son. "No," his some whispered. "Okay, well then if you get lost, we've got you right here," Sanchez explained.

One dad was clearly overcome with the enormity of facing the unthinkable.

"It's kind of like, uh … if anything happens to my child, gets lost, you know, ….I'm really sorry," stuttered Ram Silerio who had difficulty forming his thoughts, as officials say happens during an emergency.

The program is tied in with the National Center For Missing And Exploited Children and authorities recommend statistics and especially photos should be updated about every six months.
