Technology Makes Medical History More Accessible

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― New technology makes it easy to have your entire medical history at your fingertips at all times. Every test a doctor performs, every medication prescribed to a patient and every detail of a patient's treatment can be uploaded to a portable USB drive.

The USB, called VitalKey, can easily be stored in a purse or on a key chain.

If someone is in a car accident, paramedics and emergency room doctors can take the drive and immediately access the victim's medical history. It will even display a living will.

Doctor Robin Hall of Destination Health said the technology reduces medical errors by simplifying the records keeping process. Doctors can see which tests patients have already had, eliminating duplication and cutting costs.

North Texas entrepreneur Mike Stephens came up with his own solution to bulky medical records. He developed MyMedCard.com. It lists emergency and physician contacts, prescriptions, even your health insurance information.
