21 Wedding Cake Trends Women Need To Know
-- Mixing Cake Shapes Together: Alternating tiers with contrasting shapes.
-- Stacking of the cake: Separated tiers are not trendy anymore.
-- Cake Flavors: No longer just Plain White Cake. Popular is Chocolate Cake, Carrot Cake, Cappuccino/Mocha.
-- Not using cake for layers and changing it for cheesecake.
-- Cake Fillings: No longer just Buttercream. Mousse, Curd (Lemon, Orange, Mango), Macerated Berries, Organic Chocolate, etc.). People are learning more about foods and their origins and are requesting specific foods.
-- Mini Cakes: Individual cakes for each of your guests or a single cake displayed for each table.
-- Geometric Graphics: Bold Geometric patterns on cakes using pinks & browns.
-- Monograms: Initials displayed either on top, on the side of the main cake, the groom's cake.
-- Piped Borders: Buttercream borders are disappearing in the modern trends.
-- Fondant: Fondant has been around for a while and we are seeing a fondant boom in the U.S. right now. Most folks love the look, but they do not like it because it tastes too sweet.
-- Petit Fours: No longer your traditional standard miniature cakes. We are now seeing mini cupcakes, cookies, truffles, Twinkies. They are decorated with the theme colors or simply have the monogram letters displayed on top.
-- Replacing the wedding cake with
Seeing the main wedding cake being replaced by pies, doughnuts, brownies, cheesecake, cupcakes, cookies, etc.
-- Organic Colors: Believable Colors. Use true colors in the natural palette.
-- Oversized or exaggerated sugar paste flowers.
-- Grooms Cakes: Still very popular.
-- We are seeing a lot more 3-D cakes.
-- Themed Wedding Cakes: Step outside the box and come up with a theme for your wedding. Either it can be involving the entire wedding or a theme or idea that bonds the bride and groom together.
-- Bright color ribbons bordering bottoms of the cakes.
-- Simple Cakes: Less is more attitude when it comes to cakes. Do not go overboard.
-- If you want a large over the top wedding cake but can't afford it ask your bakery to see if you can rent a dummy cake. These are cakes that have a section of real cake for the cake cutting ceremony but the rest is made of Styrofoam. The guests are served from a sheet cake which is a lower cost cake than a wedding cake.
-- Fresh Flowers: The use of fresh flowers has always been popular, but we are now seeing a movement of using even more fresh flowers instead of buttercream flowers.
