Coach Sparks Brawl At Pee Wee Football Game

CORPUS CHRISTIE, Texas (CBS News) ― Everyone knows that football is king in Texas, with the popularity of such movies as "Friday Night Lights." But sometimes football gets out of hand in the Lone Star State, like it did recently in Corpus Christi, Texas.

On Nov. 4, two Pee Wee football teams were going head-to-head at a field in Corpus Christi. The kids, age five and six, watched as coach Robert Watson began arguing with 18-year-old referee Marc Benavides.

The referee says the coach yelled and swore at him, so he threw the coach out of the game. That's when the ref was punched and knocked unconscious. A nearby parent then jumped on the coach to get him away from the children, and other parents rushed to the scene. Eventually the fight was broken up.

The president of the Corpus Christi Football League says violence will not be tolerated. Charges are pending against the coach who threw the first punch.
