21 Makeup Tips For Looking Like A Celebrity

Ever wonder how celebrities look so flawless? You can look just like them with the right makeup. Celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey explains.

1. Flawless Face – I tell my clients to apply a light dusting of powder just before they hit the red carpet. A little powder goes a long way to minimizing shine and hiding imperfections. Before Kyra Segwick left for the Golden Globes, I made sure she had a translucent powder in her clutch for touch-ups.

2. Smoky Eye – To create bedroom eyes with a hint of color like Katherine McPhee, apply the brown side of MAX Factor's Vivid Impact Eye Shadow Duo in Irish Coffee all over the eyelid, from the lash line to the crease. Next, blend the lilac end of Vivid Impact Eye Shadow Duo in Sultry Sage on the inner corner of the eye and smudge a fine line under the lower lash line as well as the upper lash line. Finish with three coats of mascara.

3. Subtle Eye - Let your eyes speak for themselves by blending a flesh-colored eye shadow such as a peach or a pale pink hued shadow all over the lid up to the brow bone with a shadow brush. Finish by applying four coats of mascara. For a daytime look I use this on Amy Adams.

4. Contoured Cheeks – To accentuate cheekbones, I rely on blushes and bronzers to highlight and contour like the MAX Factor ColorGenius Blush. I apply the deepest shade of the compact in the hollows of the cheeks and blend back towards the hairline. Then I apply the two lighter shades on the apples of the cheeks to add dimension and depth.

5. Kissable Lips – A great solution for chapped and flaky lips, I suggest to exfoliate with a gentle sugar scrub like Hollywood Lips Sweet Sugar Scrub one night a week. The scrub softly revitalizes lips to feel ripe and brings back that natural red/pink hue. I've used this trick on Anna Faris.

6. SPF – No matter how old you are, SPF is always a beauty essential. Just 15 minutes in the sun is enough to damage your skin, so why chance it? I recommend every woman wear oil-free, hypoallergenic moisturizers with at least a SPF 30 every day to keep them looking younger, longer. Jake's favorite: Olay's Complete Defense Daily UV Moisturizer with SPF 30.

7. Polished Brows – Polished brows help to complete a seamless face. Once shaped, I use a clear brow gel to keep the brows in place looking brushed and well-groomed. My two favorites are Vanity Mark Ultra Brow Glaze for extra strength hold for particularly unruly brows or for your basic strays I also love CoverGirl Natural Lash and Brow Mascara which has a gentle hold.

8. Light Liquid Foundation – For a flawless complexion like Blake Lively, I prefer light liquid foundations because they even out skin tone and create a beautiful canvas for blush, eyeshadow, etc. without caking or feeling heavy on the skin. My favorite foundations are Giorgio Armani and Kevyn Aucoin.

9. Quick Foundation Trick – Here's a easy, quick way I've taught my clients to help them apply their foundation and moisturizer on the mornings I'm not around. Pour a dime-sized amount of moisturizer into the palm of your hand (hopefully with SPF if you're listening to my tip above!), next to it, pour a dime-sized amount of liquid foundation. Gently combine the two into the palms of your hands and apply to your face as if you were applying a lotion. Blend evenly all over the face and down onto the neck.

10. Rich Black Mascara – A staple in every woman's makeup bag should be a great black mascara. Mascara is your #1 tool to emphasize your eyes. Make sure you pick one that has a rich black formula.

11. Blushing Beauty - I would love to see women wearing more blush this season. Some women find blush intimidating because they think it's tough to apply. Use a blush brush to apply color to the apples of the cheeks while blending back towards the hairline. The blush will instantly warm up your skin after a season indoors. Always apply powder blush over powdered skin. This will allow the blush to blend beautifully and evenly.

12. Face Wash – Flawless skin is always in. Make sure to cleanse your skin in the morning and at night, making sure your face wash is not too harsh on your skin. I love washes with an exfoliating component because the benefits are two-fold; it cleanses your skin and sloughs off dead skin cells.

13. Facials – I think every woman should treat herself to a facial every once in a while. Facials awaken the skin and allow a brighter, cleaner complexion to shine through. If professional facials aren't in the budget, many of the mass market brands have great at-home kits.

14. Treatment Mask – Felicity Huffman always has radiant skin. To achieve this, my favorite skin brightening product is SKII's Facial Treatment Mask because it gives skin a healthy glow. The mask is infused with a luxuriously rich skin-nurturing cream that works to reawaken dull, tired-looking skin, while leaving skin bright and hydrated!

15. Teeth Whitening – We all wish our teeth were a little brighter but using lipstick is a great way to fake a million dollar smile. Darker colored lipsticks make your teeth look whiter, but they also make you look older so choose your lipstick colors wisely. Red lipsticks and those with cool blue tones make your teeth look whiter. Stay away from yellow and orange toned lipsticks that make your teeth look yellow.

16. Long-Wearing Blush – The warm weather can cause makeup to fade but a good trick for a long-lasting blush is to use a long-wear lip color! Chose a long-wear lip color in a shade that complements your skin tone, dab onto the apples of the cheeks and blend quickly. The color will look rich all-day long and you will have a gorgeous sun-kissed look. This trick is best on bare skin or over very light foundation, so this would work on someone like Mandy Moore who has naturally very smooth, flawless skin.

17. Quick and Easy Eye Shadow – In a crunch for time, I use a colored liner without shadow for a standout look that can be achieved in just a couple of minutes. Draw the color over the entire eye and blend with your fingertip. For more drama, apply in the inner rim of the eye and bottom lash line and you have a smoky eye look that won't quit! I've used this trick on Julianne Hough for many photo shoots or red carpet events where time is of the essence.

18. Fake a Summer Tan –To get a tan like Paris Hilton, use a bronzer to fake a summer tan without the harmful effects of the sun. The correct way to apply bronzer is around the perimeter of the face, where the sun natural hits it. Blend the product in for the most believable "fake" sun-kissed look!

19. Hide Imperfections – From time to time we all get unsightly blemishes and red marks. A great way to conceal imperfections is to use a cream concealer that matches your foundation. Whatever is not covered by a thin layer of your foundation can be covered by using the cream concealer on top.

20. Traffic Stopping Red Lips – This is a look I love to use on Rose McGowan. Begin by lining the lips with a red lip liner. Follow by filling in the rest of the long wear lip color in shade similar to your lip liner. To complete the look, glide a clear gloss over the lips for a multi-dimensional look.

21. Symmetrical Brows – Perfectly shaped brows are key to framing the face. Go to a professional salon just once to shape your brows. Brows will be easier to maintain once you have achieved the desired shape. Clean up any stray hairs with tweezers and use brow powder to fill in.
