Polishing Your Halo

(Persōnas Image Dynamics) The Halo Effect crosses over into all of my 3 As of Image: appearance, attitude and ACE: the ability to communicate effectively.

Learning to polish your Halo can help you get more of the things you want out of your life, a better career, better relationships and more opportunities.

So what is the halo effect? Your halo effect is the impressions others will have of you based on something you do well or possibly because of one of your personality traits that is really exceptional. The overall impression of you is improved when others view your outstanding qualities in a positive way.

Here is an example that might make this concept a little clearer. Let's look at a successful singer who has a beautiful, soothing voice and great stage presence like Celine Dion. Celine not only has a beautiful voice, but she herself is also beautiful. Because of that, we may naturally assume that she also has a great personality. We might even want to get to know Celine, feeling sure that she must be a nice person.

Your halo is something that is created by one or more of your positive attributes and the effect is that it shines a positive light on you and everything else you do. The halo effect causes us to evaluate you highly on one or more of your good traits. We will believe that you're a good person who is good at everything else, unless you show us that you're not! We are more willing to forgive you for minor mistakes you might make. We have no idea that this perception is happening; it all happens subconsciously. It's part of our human nature to assess one another. We also live in somewhat of a critical society and that makes it important to consider what type of halo effect you might are projecting.

This effect can even happen in reverse too! You can create a devil effect or what I like to call the fallen angel effect as well! You can develop an overall bad impression if we have a low evaluation of one or more of your traits. If you are in the habit of throwing temper tantrums or you show up late to everything, we'll have a tendency to be more critical of everything else you do.

Polishing your halo is a good thing because it will help get you better job interviews, better chances to meet interesting people and more opportunities in your social life. Having a polished halo can also help to cover some of the areas in which you may have some challenges. Here are some effective ways to polish your halo!

Steps to Polishing Your Halo!

1. Determine what you're best at doing. Fine tune it and continually work to be better at it.

2. If you do not think you're good at anything, get good at doing at least one thing really well.

3. Show others how good you are at something, even if you think it's relatively unimportant. It's okay to toot your own horn a little. Notice I said a little -- don't overdo it.

4. Volunteer. Giving of our time and resources polishes our halo and makes us feel good while were at it.

5. Watch what you do. Don't do something that would tarnish your halo. This means you have to be mindful of where you're at and who you're with.

6. Improve your attitude if you tend to be negative. Nothing tarnishes a halo faster than a bad attitude!

7. Work to be approachable, warm and friendly.

8. Look your best. Studies show that being attractive and looking likeable generally makes the rest of us assume you are also intelligent, friendly and that you have good judgment.

9. Watch the kind of language you use. Work to keep from being critical of others as well.

10. Look to see if you are enamored with others for the wrong traits. Being more aware of your tendencies to assess others highly on the wrong traits can keep you from voting for the wrong person or wasting your money or rejecting someone who could be your friend for a life time.
