Hitler Museum Nears Grand Opening

MILLARD, Wisc. (AP) ― One man's villain is another man's hero. That might be the nicest thing most people can say about a man who's preparing to open a museum that honors Adolf Hitler.

Theodore Junker of Millard claims to be a former SS officer in Nazi Germany. Over the past 10 years, he's dedicated his life to building a memorial and museum dedicated to Nazis.

Chief among those he honors is Hitler, who, Junker says, was a great man.

"It's interesting since most people are one-sided informed, and they don't know the other side," Junker said. "He was the greatest man ever."

The shrine includes a huge plaque on the outside and photos and flags on the inside. Junker says the museum will be open to the public.

But when it actually will open is in question.

Junker wants to do so in two weeks, but town officials are scrambling to see what they can do to delay or cancel those plans. Officials say many people in Walworth County wrote off Junker as a mixed-up old man and thought he'd die before finishing his pet project.

Now that he's on the verge of a grand opening, people are worried about what might happen when he does.

Millard is about 50 miles southwest of Milwaukee.
