Fashions That Are 'Cool At School'
NORTH TEXAS (TXA 21 News) ―
Today was the first day of school for many North Texas schoolchildren. Now that the school supplies and back-to-school clothes shopping has wrapped up, it's easy to see just what's 'cool in school'.
Most of us remember how it was heading back to school after summer break. Dealing with the back-to-school butterflies and laying your clothes out the night before.
While some things seem to never change, many have when it comes to style.
As kids hit the school campus for the first time, many are putting their best foot, or should we say "brand new shoe", forward.
Along with classroom instruction there seemed to be a fashion show of sorts.
Students walked the halls prominently displaying "big" purses, in some cases big hair, and many strutted in their newest pair of 'skinny jeans'.
"It's the Kathy Van Zealand purse. This one's in style, and Coach and Chanel," said student Priscilla Guadarrama.
As usual, the fashion fads are different. When it comes to fashion, this year, plaid rules - everywhere from your head to your toes.
"Gotta have plaid shorts and gotta have a shirt to match," explained student Kenneth Smith.
Bright colors seem to be a big hit for guys and polo shirts are in for both sexes.
Girls aren't the only ones hitting the beauty salon. While female students were once again busy getting the usual haircuts and highlights... some guys are very particular about their locks and are now 'spraying' and 'gelling' their hair.
Big buckles and ornate belts are the thing for teen boys. And, along with the skinny jeans, girls are wearing low, slip-in sneaker-type shoes. The latest 'foot fashion' has guys rocking the Nike Air Force 1's and other stylish new sneakers.
When kids were talked to, off camera, they said if they didn't have the latest 'in thing' they planned on asking their parents to buy them.
