Father Cutié Weds In Private Court Ceremony

Official Religious Ceremony Set To Take Place Next Week

MIAMI (CBS) ― Former Catholic priest Alberto Cutié is a married man although the official religious ceremony isn't scheduled to take place until next week, CBS station WFOR-TV reports.

Cutié received his official marriage license Tuesday from a Coral Gables court and according to the Miami-Dade County Clerk of Courts website, the bride is 35-year old Ruhama Buni Canellis.

WFOR-TV news partner 'The Miami Herald' reports the couple was legally married Tuesday morning by a judge but their religious wedding ceremony is set to take place next week at an unnamed Episcopal church with the Rt. Rev. Leo Frade, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida, officiating the wedding.

Cutié and Canellis had been at the center of a scandal after pictures and videos were revealed showing the couple in romantic positions on a South Florida beach. Cutié at the time was under a vow of celibacy as a Roman Catholic priest. But, Cutié wound up leaving the Catholic Church saying he was in love with Canellis.

The two surprised many people when they showed up together at a news conference at Miami's Trinity Cathedral in late May, where Cutie' announced he was going to begin the yearlong process of becoming an Episcopalian priest and at the same time, announced he and Canellis were engaged.
