Dallas Cracking Down On Firecrackers
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Dallas firefighters and police will be patrolling popular recreation spots this July 4 weekend looking for illegal fireworks.
They are focusing primarily on parks and lakes throughout the city. Dallas firefighters are handing out flyers and asking neighbors to leave the fireworks to the professionals. Those who find the need to create their own light and sound display can be cited. In fact, even the smallest of firecrackers can cost you up to $2,000 in fines.
"Fireworks are illegal in the city of Dallas. A lot of the surrounding cities have picked it up too. There's pretty much nowhere in the immediate area you can go and pop off fireworks" says Lt. Simmeana Westbrook with Dallas Fire Rescue.
The patrols will increase Saturday night when Dallas firefighters and police will patrol parks and neighbors together.
