Philadelphia will join a couple of other U.S. cities when it welcomes
an all-women's sports team that puts a new twist on a favorite
full-contact pastime.
With football in hand, players face-off on a 50-yard field wearing helmets, pads and little else. The all-women Lingerie Football League is seven-on-seven tackle football played in arenas and stadiums throughout the country, reports CBS station KYW-TV in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia will be the latest city to join the ranks of teams like the Atlanta Steam and the Dallas Desire. Open tryouts are being held for the Philadelphia Passion's inaugural roster, which will open their season against the Miami Caliente on November 6.
The home opener is one of two chances fans will have to catch the Passion in action at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton during LFL Friday Night Football. Before the game, a massive tailgate will take place including beer gardens, gaming lounges, live music and BBQ.
