Obama The Turtle Released On Saturday

MIAMI (CBS) ― A loggerhead turtle that was rescued on Key West's Higgs Beach on January 19 has finally been released. The turtle was named after President Barack Obama, who took the oath of office one day after the turtle was rescued.

Obama, the 200-pound loggerhead, was cared for at the Turtle Hospital in Marathon. The turtle suffered from a severe intestinal impaction and body cavity infection, CBS station WFOR-TV reports.

Turtle Hospital Ryan Butts said that since the turtle came to the hospital at a historic moment in American history, it was appropriate to set it free on the Fourth of July.
