21 Things to Know When Packing For A Trip
(Tamara Gaudin)
1.
Have a plan before you start packing.
2. Write out how many outfits you need for you trip.
3.
Break down the outfits in to day or evening, dressy and casual.
4.
Pick a basic color to stick with like white or black. Then make sure to pack pieces that work this color. If you are packing brown and neutrals don't add black pants and black shoes.
5.
Try to pick pieces that are versatile and can be worn more than once.
6.
Lay everything out before you start putting things in the suitcase; Eliminate if you can.
7.
Accessories can change the look of an outfit and can take it from day to night just by a change of shoes, adding some necklaces, putting on a belt and so on. Accessories take up less room than packing extra clothes.
8.
Make sure to also lay out your workout gear, toiletries and any other items you need to pack.
9.
When packing toiletries, think of the place you are staying and what they may have for you to use like a hair dryer so you don't pack unnecessary items.
10.
Buy small travel size bottles to condense the larger ones that you use day to day.
11.
Put your shoes in first and utilize the space inside the shoes. Many things can fit in the shoes like undergarments, socks, travel bottles, etc.
12.
Lay your clothes flat and fold them as few times as possible.
13.
If you have something that may wrinkle, put it in a plastic bag such as a dry cleaning back. This will help prevent wrinkles.
14.
Carry things like make-up and jewelry on the plane with you.
15.
If your bag is too full and you can't take anything out, utilize the two carry on bag rule. You may not be able to carry on all of your bathroom items but you can carry on clothes.
16.
Make sure to utilize all the space in your suitcase, every nook and cranny.
17.
Make notes of the outfits you have selected and write down where you are wearing them. This will eliminate the hassle of figuring it out while on your trip.
18.
Taking photos of the outfits goes one step further and makes getting dressed even easier.
19.
Wear bulky pieces such as coats and boots on the plane to allow for more room in your suitcase.
20.
Even though you have your contact information on the outside of your bag, make sure to also put a piece of paper on the inside with your contact information. If your bag is lost and something happens to the outside tag you have a back up.
