Feds Call Magician-As-Cargo Stunt A Hoax

Wade Whitcomb Claims He Successfully Shipped Himself In A Crate To Vegas Via UPS

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) ― Federal investigators say a magician who claimed he packaged himself and rode a cargo plane on a cross-country flight from upstate New York to Las Vegas was pulling off a hoax.

Wade Whitcomb said he folded himself into a cramped wooden crate for the 26-hour trip on a United Parcel Service truck and a UPS plane.

Whitcomb said he made the trip last November as a publicity stunt for a buddy's Web site. He posted videos of the purported trip shot with tiny cameras pointed out of the crate and one inside focused on him.

Tara Uselding, spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration, says the TSA and FBI investigated and determined the whole thing to be a hoax.

Whitcomb declined to comment.
