Explaining Air Quality Levels In North Texas

(CBS 11 / TXA 21) This time of year we frequently see Air Quality Alerts. You probably see the highway signs displaying them as you drive North Texas interstates.

The Air Quality Alerts are issued when the ozone level is expected to be high enough to cause breathing problems for those with preexisting respiratory ailments and also for people who are active outside. It is advised to limit your outdoor activity on days where Air Quality Alerts have been issued.

But like temperatures, the air quality can vary across the area.

The Texas Commission for Environmental Quality has interactive maps that track current ozone levels for North Texas.  While levels in Downtown Fort Worth may be orange, or unhealthy for sensitive groups, readings in Downtown Dallas may be in the green, or healthy, range.
