Record High Temperatures Possible For DFW
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
North Texas will come close to either tying or breaking the record high on Monday. As of now, the record high stands at 107 degrees set in 1951. It is 101 degrees as of the 1 p.m. observation at DFW Airport.
Counting Monday, we have had 11 days in a row of 100 degrees. And 17 of the past 18 days have seen a high temperature of 100 degrees or higher!
RELIEF FROM THE HEAT COURTESY OF EDOUARD?Tropical Storm Edouard is trying to get better organized in the afternoon, just south of the Louisiana coast. It is not showing signs of significant strengthening, but there are some banding features trying to wrap around the center of circulation, which is a sign of a storm gaining some strength. When we see these signatures on the satellite, there is usually a lag in observed wind data from the Hurricane Hunter aircraft flying through the storm. So, by the 4 p.m. update from the National Hurricane Center, the winds could be upped just a little from the current report of 45 mph.
Edouard is still moving to the west-northwest at about 8 mph. The track takes the storm on-shore along the Texas coast near Galveston or just south. The storm still has the potential to ramp up to a strong Tropical Storm or a Category 1 hurricane. A storm becomes a hurricane when the sustained winds are estimated or measured at 74 mph or greater.
Looking at the computer models showing the projected path of Edouard, many models are taking the center of the storm over Galveston Bay or just slightly to the south. Edouard is a compact storm, and if it follows the path as indicated by the models, we may not see any rain in DFW.
We will have some slightly cooler temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday as cloud cover will increase thanks to some moisture moving into the mid-levels of the atmosphere, thanks to Edouard. I can't rule out isolated storms Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon, but it really depends on the track Edouard takes as it moves into Texas.
