Strong Storms Moving Across North Texas

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Severe storms continue to the west of the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Quarter size hail and winds up to 60 mph are possible with the storms in Palo Pinto and Jack County.  Monday evening the storms were moving east at about 20 mph.

Just before 8pm there were reports of multiple power line flashes reported near Burleson.

CBS 11 Storm spotters in the field have reported no large hail, but according to the radar the storms are capable of producing up to quarter size hail.

CBS 11 Storm Team Meteorologist Larry Mowry says to expect the storms to draw near the western Tarrant County line around 7pm and then slowly move across the metroplex there after.

The storms won't be moving terribly fast and will likely redevelop over the metroplex even after the initial storms arrive. This will likely continue through midnight and maybe there after.

Area storms could pose a flash flooding threat with some areas seeing a quick 1" to 3" of rain. The favored area for the heaviest rain will be from Interstate-35E eastward. Flooding won't become a concern until late Monday evening when the storms slow down.

Cloudy skies will linger all of Tuesday. Rain will be moving south of our area by daybreak, but could see a few passing showers during the day. The chances of additional rain are around 30 percent.

A large upper-level low will linger across the Rockies for several days, keeping the clouds around and a slight chance for a shower. Look for much cooler temperatures on Tuesday, a high near 76 degrees, with a northwest wind.

Wednesday should still be cloudy and cooler with high temperatures in the mid-70s.
