Fast rising waters trapped four drivers at a Fort Worth underpass during heavy rains Wednesday afternoon. One of them, a UPS driver, was carrying packages and refused to leave his truck.
The events played out near the intersection of Cold Springs Road and Northside Drive in Fort Worth, near the UPS distribution facility and the Trinity River.
Two brothers waded out of their 1976 Monte Carlo and waited for an older brother to come and help. Eddy Coronado arrived just in time. "By the time we actually pulled it out, it was all the way up to the dash board. The whole hood was submerged in water," Coronado said.
Firefighters rescued a woman from a silver four door coupe stuck in the water next to the UPS truck.
The UPS driver says he got stuck stopping to help her. "I didn't think the water was going to rise that quick," he said. The driver wouldn't give his name but a tow truck driver who pulls out UPS trucks says he sees this every time it rains.
"He was trying to help a lady but there was already water across it when he went into it. It rose about 3 feet in about 5 or 6 minutes," tow truck driver Robert Worthy said.
Eddy Coronado stayed long enough to help everyone, even one more driver who tried but didn't make it through the high water. No one was hurt in the flood waters. As for the UPS packages, most of them were on a high shelf.
