North Texas Breaks May 19th Heat Record

98 Degree High Set In 2006 Broken

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is reporting a high temperature of 99 degrees! That breaks a record high of 98 degrees set in 2006. Lots of sunshine and heat are in the forecast and 100 degree heat is still possible.

Breezy southwest winds, up to 20 mph, have helped to heat up North Texas. The reason is that the air downslopes slightly off the higher terrain of West Texas and heats up.

One hundred degree heat is especially possible north and west of Fort Worth. The air remains fairly dry, so heat index values should be close to the actually temperature.

A very weak cold front will slide into the area on Tuesday and knock our high temperatures down a bit. North Texans can still expect temperatures in the mid-90s and south of the front we could see 98 degrees or higher.

For the rest of the week, look for low pressure to develop out west and increases our south winds off the Gulf of Mexico. Our humidity goes up even though our temperatures come down a bit. That means our heat index will still be flirting with 100.

Expect more clouds and even a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms Thursday or Friday.

Even more clouds are expected over Memorial Day weekend, and more thunderstorms are in the forecast, unfortunately. Expect very summer-like conditions over the holiday, with afternoon thunderstorms and very muggy air. Lows will be in the 70s, highs in the upper 80s.
