Storms Cause Minor Damage In East Texas

FORT WORTH (AP) ― A meteorologist and a sheriff's office dispatcher said Monday that a possible tornado damaged some homes and knocked down power lines and trees in East Texas.

Winds gusting at more than 70 mph caused storm damage in parts of Anderson County on Monday night. Spotter groups working for the National Weather Service reported a possible tornado touching down in Montalba and damage to homes in Tennessee Colony.

Those towns are roughly 90 miles southeast of Dallas.

An Anderson County sheriff's dispatcher said officials were alerted to downed trees and power lines. There were no reports of injuries.

Most areas of Texas should welcome back the sunshine on Tuesday with cooler temperatures and mild winds, according to the National Weather Service.

Skies should be mostly sunny Tuesday in North Texas with highs in the upper 70s and northwest winds from 10 to 20 mph. Lows should be in the mid-50s with winds from the northwest around 10 mph.

In Southeast Texas, skies were expected to be mostly cloudy early Tuesday morning then becoming partly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs should be in the lower 80s with northwest winds from 5 to 10 mph. Conditions should continue to be partly cloudy Tuesday night with lows in the mid-50s and winds from the northwest from 5 to 10 mph.

Conditions in West Texas should be mostly sunny on Tuesday with highs expected around 80 degrees and east winds from 5 to 10 mph. Skies should be mostly clear Tuesday night with lows in the mid-50s.
