Triple-Digit Heat Set To Cook North Texas
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
The second official day of summer and here it comes: big time heat with temperatures close to 100 degrees for North Texans.
That big ridge of high pressure we advertized last week is poised to position itself over Texas as it shifts from the southeastern United States. While temperatures soared close to 100 degrees for parts of Georgia over the weekend, the intense heat builds over much of the country Monday from Orlando to Omaha to Odessa.
Three cites are under Excessive Heat Warnings: Tulsa, St. Louis and Tallahassee. Heat Advisories blanket parts of 14 states. Alright, North Texans, get set to bake in temperatures near 100 degrees all week! The Heat Index could push 105 degrees.
MONDAY: Nothing but sunny skies, and a light south wind at 5 to 10 mph won't help matters. High of 99 degrees with a Heat Index of 103 degrees.
MONDAY NIGHT: No real heat relief as we dip to 79 degrees with light winds and clear skies.
TUESDAY: One degree warmer with the mercury seeing 100 degrees and a Heat Index of 104 degrees. Winds still relatively light from the south. Air quality around the Metroplex beginning to go downhill with little mixing of surface pollutants and particulate matter.
REST OF WEEK: Clear skies, light winds and intense heat with highs in the low 100s across the Metroplex, and upper 90s for rural areas. Morning lows close to 80 degrees.
The National Weather Service and the CBS 11 & TXA 21 Storm Teams are watching the situation closely, as the heat and humidity come close to Heat Advisory criteria. A Heat Advisory is issued when the daytime Heat Index is expected to exceed 105 degrees and/or the nighttime Heat Index remains above 80 degrees for at least two consecutive days. If an advisory is issued, as soon as it is issued, the information can be found on our website at CBS11TV.COM or TXA21TV.COM.
