Storms Move East; Cleanup Begins

Residents Share Photos Of Hail Damage

Dallas/Fort Worth (CBS 11 News) ―

After hail ranging from the size of peas to baseballs pounding North Texas last night, the metro area will now get a chance to dry out and give way to more sun and even warmer temps this weekend.

What a difference 12 hours can make. It was hardly a pretty picture when you look at the damage caused in our western region.

Mineral Wells saw golf-ball sized hail as shown my viewer photos. Click here to visit the slideshow of images from last night's storm.

In Palo Pinto, vehicles at a dealership  will need some serious repairs. The huge hail shattered windshields and caused dents all over hoods and roofs.

The hail also burst its way through sky lights at the Mineral Wells Wal-Mart. Rain came right into the store soaking up the aisles. Click here to watch the viewer-submitted video from inside the store.

Viewer photos and video paint a picture of the widespread damage.

Hail also fell in Dallas County, but it was smaller and overshadowed by the sideways rain that sent drivers looking for cover.

As of 6 a.m., Oncor reports abour 5,500 customers are without power.  At the height of the storm, about 27,000 were in the dark.

Storms this morning have moved through southeast Texas and Louisiana leaving sunny and cooler for North Texas.

The cool northwest breeze this morning will die down during the afternoon.  Highs will be near 70 degrees.
