Storms Quickly Move Eastward, Intensify

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ―

Showers that developed along a cold front over the metro area intensified as they moved to the southeast, triggering a Tornado Warning for parts of Navarro, Hill and Limestone counties.

One of the results of the storm while it was in the metro area was departure delays of at least an hour at DFW Airport, airport officials reported about 2:15 p.m.

At noon, a westerly wind was reported in Bridgeport and southerly wind in Denton.  It was accompanied with a few scattered showers but nothing of consequence at this time.  Any severe weather should be well south of Interstate 20, closer to Athens and Palestine because of the frontal position and continued high dew points in that area.

Saturday morning and afternoon should be pleasant with highs in the mid to upper 70s with a North wind shifting to the southeast.  This wind shift will be the signal that a low pressure area and its associated cold front will be to our west.

"At this time I think we will see the rain start to our south in the afternoon and spread north," CBS 11 meteorologist Mike Burger said.

By Saturday night, models indicate some significant rainfall amounts could total two to three inches in some areas.  The rain will continue until the front moves by us; right now that seems to be about 4-7 a.m.

Once the front moves by, the rain will be ending west to east.  With the potential for so much rain in such a short period flooding and flash flooding will certainly be the main focus.  As of this morning the Saturday night/Sunday morning event appears to be more rain than severe weather, but as we found out Wednesday it only takes a matter of seconds for a tornado to spin up and hit.
