Dallas Woman Watches As Yard Disappears With Rain

Melissa Newton
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Patricia Palmer's heart sank, when she heard rain was back in the forecast.

"I'm just at the point, how can it get much worse?" Palmer asked.

Her once beautiful backyard is now a big mess.  The ground started to erode during last week's storms, and as the rain continued to fall, so did the yard.

"It's just a total disaster. To look down at it I just want to cry." she said. "It's so sad to see it just wash away."

Tarps now cover the deep trench, to keep the problem from getting worse.  "The house, we hope, is safe."

Yet, with each raindrop, even that hope is slowly sinking.   "I toss and turn at night wondering how we're going to fix it." she said "it's pretty scary."

Someone with the City of Dallas is expected to come out Thursday to assess the problem. According to one estimate, repairs could cost more than $50,000, and homeowner's insurance has already denied Palmer's claim.
