A search-and-rescue crew has found a third body on an island near where Hurricane Ike barreled ashore last month, pushing the Texas death toll from the storm to 36.
The Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office said Texas Task Force One found the body Sunday under debris on Goat Island, located off the devastated vacation area of Bolivar Peninsula.
This was the fourth Hurricane Ike victim found on Goat Island. The bodies of a still unidentified man and a woman were found there Saturday, and fishermen found the body of Herman Thomas Moseley on September 27.
More than 1 million people evacuated the Texas coast due to Ike. The storm caused flooding and deaths as far away as Pennsylvania and Illinois. The storm claimed 71 victims nationwide.
