Family On The Minds Of La. HS Football Team In DFW

IRVING (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― The John Curtis High School Patriots of River Ridge, Louisiana put their game face on. They knew their game against the nation's top ranked school – Euless' Trinity High - would be a match like none other.

Rita Jarrow cheered from the stands of Texas Stadium for her son's team. Other members of her family are still in the New Orleans area.

"My husband is part of civil defense with the parish and he wasn't able to leave, and he was looking forward to this coming to the game," said Jarrow. "We gonna stay here until everything is cleared up. The roads may not be open at this point."

The eam arrived here over the weekend, but half of their supporters are still at home. No cheerleaders, no band and most of their families are still in the New Orleans area.

The fans who followed the John Curtis team knew the players needed their support. Giselle and Camille LaFort came for their son, but may remain in North Texas because of the unknown back home.

"Thank God we have this. To be honest with you, my son's been concerned," said Giselle. "We met up with him last night. He's just worried about his grandparents, aunts and uncles. In the back of my mind, I'm worried about what we're going to go back home too."

Everyone in attendance knew the team from Louisiana played for more than just themselves today. But in the end, the Louisiana team lost to Trinity High 28 to 12.
