Lightning is the second deadliest weather strike with flash flooding the No. 1 weather-related killer. Experts say July is a particularly dangerous month for lightning strikes because of all of the outdoor activities. On average, 62 people are killed in the U.S. every year from lightning strikes.
3 Safety Tips to keep in mind at all times:
1. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. 2. Stay away from windows, open areas, trees, metal and water during storms. 3. Safe shelters include any four-sided building or vehicle.
2 Things to remember: 1. Lightning detectors only detect lightning. They can't predict where it will strike. 2. If someone is struck by lightning, they are safe to touch and need immediate medical attention.
