Cold Front Brings Rain Chances Tonight & Tuesday
Hurricane Ike Should Affect Coastal Texas By The Weekend
NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A cold front moving in from the Texas Panhandle is touching off an initial area of showers with embedded storms providing much needed rainfall for North Texans. Severe storms are not expected, but pockets of heavy rainfall and brief, gusty winds are possible.
Another round of storms expected overnight and into the Tuesday morning commute. Temperatures behind this front are in the 60s. However, we North Texans won't experience that kind of cool down as the front rolls through tonight.
TONIGHT
As the aforementioned cold front slides in from the north, we'll see the coverage of rain increase over North Texas. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms to cover about 40 percent of North Texas. Rainfall amounts do not appear to be all that heavy, at this time.
TUESDAY
The cold front should slide through our area during the morning hours. Look for the wind to shift out of the northeast and clouds to stay pretty thick over North Texas all day. Rain chances look best in the morning and then tapering off during the afternoon. But with all the cloud cover and increased rain chances, look for high temperatures to stay in the low 80s with some areas seeing highs in the upper 70s. Rain chance is still around 40 percent.
WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY
By midweek, the cold front washes out and we return to the 90s for high temps. There could be one or two storms on Wednesday, but for the most part, we will be drying out a bit.
FRIDAY
Another cold front will be on its way. This front will bring a slight chance of rain beginning Friday morning.
THIS WEEKEND & HURRICANE IKE
As the cold front pushes into North Texas on Friday, Hurricane Ike will be approaching the western Gulf coast. At this time, Ike is forecast to be a major hurricane just offshore. Most of the computer models have shifted the Ike's path from the upper Texas coast a little farther south with a landfall by Saturday.
The timing now looks like the cold front along with a powerful trough will move Ike toward North Texas. Cloudy skies, intermittent storms and windy conditions could be the rule this weekend. However, there remains a chance that Ike will get shoved off to our East much quicker and leave North Texas high and dry.
