Heavy Rain Coming To N. Texas Wednesday

NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― FLASH FLOOD WATCH FROM NOON WEDNESDAY THROUGH 6AM THURSDAY
A flash flood watch for most of North Texas starts tomorrow afternoon and runs through Thursday morning.  Everyone will likely see between 1" to 2" of rain with some localized areas seeing 2" to 3+" of rain.

SEVERAL ELEMENTS COMING TOGETHER FOR HEAVY RAIN

Several elements are coming together tomorrow that will produce heavy rain for us in North Texas.  The first is an upper level low sitting over the Four Corners area.  This is already creating severe weather in southern New Mexico and Arizona.  Another element is Tropical Storm Rick, which is sitting off the west coast of Mexico.  Some of the high clouds that will be moving into North Texas later tonight will be some of the moisture coming our way from Rick.  The Pacific moisture combined with Gulf Moisture will saturate the atmosphere and lead to the potential for heavy rain.  The third element is a cold front that will be arriving tomorrow night.

RAIN STARTS WEDNESDAY MORNING
Clouds will increase Tuesday night.  Spotty showers will start Wednesday morning and coverage of the rain will increase through the day.  Storms will be likely in the afternoon and evening.  Severe weather potential looks rather low, but if we get some sunshine and warm temperatures, a few severe storms will be possible.  If a few stronger storms develop, they will start to rotate.  So although the severe potential is rather low, we will keep a close eye on the intensity of the storms to see if they start rotating.

HEAVY RAIN THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING
The cold front will arrive Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.  Heavy rain will continue during the overnight hours and the rain will end from west to east early Thursday morning.  Behind the front it will be windy and cold with temperatures staying in the 50s on Thursday.
