Severe Storms Possible Thursday Morning
(CBS 11 / TXA 21)
The clouds and the winds that you see and feel today is moisture being transported northward toward our powerful storm system which is just to our west. This moisture will feed the development of thunderstorms overnight tonight in northwest Texas and western Oklahoma.
Severe weather will become widespread just to the west of North Texas overnight tonight. These storms will develop into a squall line and head toward North Texas. The latest forecast models have slowed the timing by a few hours. The squall line of storms is expected in the metroplex between 6am and noon. What will have to be watched closely is if individual cells can develop out ahead of the squall line.
Damaging winds appear to the greatest threat. But a few isolated tornadoes will be possible with discrete cells ahead of the squall line. Also within the squall line itself there could be quick spin up tornadoes. The area remains under a slight risk for severe weather for the morning hours tomorrow.
Tonight
It will be a windy and cloudy night with temperatures continuing to rise thru the overnight hours. We will likely climb into the low 70s tonight. The winds will be stronger tonight then what we saw today. So if you are a light sleeper, or don't like to hear the wind howling while you sleep, tonight won't be a fun night. There will occasional showers thru the overnight hours and maybe even a few isolated thunderstorms. The threat for severe weather during the nighttime hours is not high.
Tomorrow
Around daybreak or shortly thereafter severe weather will be in North Texas as the squall line comes thru. This line of storms will slow as it progresses eastward likely stalling in East Texas during the day on Thursday. This will mean a heavy rain event for areas just to the east of Dallas. Flash Flood Watch is in effect for areas along I-35W and points east, including the metroplex. The greatest flooding threat, though is to the east. Temperatures will drop into the 50s and stay there most of the day tomorrow.
Friday
Cloudy and cool with occasional rain. This is looking similar to how Monday looked. Temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s.
Saturday
What looked like a great Halloween, may not be so wonderful for half of North Texas. With everything slowing down with the latest model runs, clouds appear to stick around on Saturday as well as some rain chances. The favored area for rain will be from Dallas to the east. With the cloud cover and rain chances it will be cooler with highs in the mid 60s.
Sunday
Sunshine will return for all of us and a pleasant day with highs in the low 70s.
