Commuters Could Wake Up To Morning Showers
Young Co. Officials Report 2 Tornado Touchdowns
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ―
As expected, storms that developed along a dryline to our west and northwest brought tornadoes and hail. The Young County sheriff's office reports what they believe to be two possible tornado touchdowns in areas south of Graham. A severe thunderstorm watch for much of the Dallas/Ft. Worth metro area and points south will be in effect until 4a.m. Strong to severe storms will be scattered or isolated throughout the night. Fortunately, the tornado threat appears to be much lower - at least for the time being.
We still expect the cold front to remain stalled across the extreme northwestern part of North Texas Tuesday night. The storm system will begin its move slowly toward the south during the day Wednesday.
People living in the metro area could wake up Wednesday morning to scattered thunderstorms with hail, heavy rain and strong winds. A lot will depend on the where the cold front is located.
It's likely that the front will stall during the day along a line stretching from Mineral Wells, Decatur, Denton to Greenville. This will set the stage for more severe weather later in the day, mainly after 3 p.m.
The triggers will be daytime heating, the stalled front and a strong upper air disturbance pushing into West Texas that will provide the ingredients for storms that could produce large hail, destructive winds and the possibility again for isolated tornadoes.
Be prepared for storms that could last well into the evening hours Wednesday and even overnight. The storms will be around until they lift east. The drier air behind the cold front arrives late morning Thursday.
While Thursday morning may start off a bit wet, by afternoon we dry out and it will be breezy and cooler. The only catch is the main upper level trough will be slow to move out. This means we stay cloudy Thursday and even much of the day Friday before finally clearing out Friday night. We can't rule out a slight chance of a few sprinkles Friday as the trough finally passes over North Texas.
