Showers, Thunderstorms Move Through Metro Area

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ― There have also been reports of gusty winds with these storms. A lot of the winds are caused by outflow boundaries. These are fast moving boundaries that are caused by air rapidly sinking in the storm and then hitting the ground and spreading out.

A wind gust of 50 miles per hour was recorded at DFW as well as a 43 m.p.h. wind gust in Arlington. Some of the heavier rain right now is located over DFW to Southlake to Lewisville, to Carrollton.

In Southeast Dallas County, a very heavy downpour and more lightning can be found. This is along I-45 and I-20.

None of the storms have reached severe criteria, but they are certainly providing some much needed rain. Lightning is of course the biggest danger with these storms.
