Severe Storms Possible Over The Weekend

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ― We are watching an outflow boundary move right into Dallas and Fort Worth this evening. The green line on the radar image is not rain, but the outflow boundary itself. The boundary is moving right over Downtown Dallas and moving to the north and west.

This outflow boundary came from storms to our south and east. Winds will be a little gusty as this outflow boundary moves through. These outflow boundaries often times produce showers and thunderstorms. But at this time not much is happening with this boundary.

It is possible we could see an isolated storm develop over the next hour or two but most areas will stay dry. The only shower at the moment is in Northern Van Zandt County.

A cold front is expected to move into North Texas Saturday night into Sunday. It is somewhat unusual for a cold front to make it this far south this late in June, but the forecast models are indicating that this will happen.

What this means for us is that we will see a good possibility of thunderstorms Saturday into Sunday. At this point it appears the best timing on these storms would be Saturday night into Sunday morning. However, the front could speed up and bring us a soggy Saturday or it could slow down and wash out our Sunday.

We have to take a wait and see approach to the timing of this front. But be aware we will likely see decent coverage on showers and thunderstorms on either Saturday or Sunday, and some of those storms could be severe.
