A revival of Broadway's iconic interpretation of a girl group's rise to pop-music power is now playing a brief engagement (before beginning a national tour) at Harlem's legendary Apollo Theater, which happens to be the setting for the opening and closing scenes of the musical. The show's original sizzle was supplied in 1981 by director-choreographer Michael Bennett who staged the musical with a ferocity of movement that this production, under the guidance of Robert Longbottom, attempts to honor. For much of the time, it succeeds, although Tom Eyen's book bogs things down in the second act when the musical trips over its attempt to tie up the plot with a sudsy, saccharin ending.

Hero Pilot Jokes About Marital Boost In NBC Show

Pilot Chesley Sullenberger jokes that his heroic handling of a disabled jetliner brought him "rock star sex" in an interview for "NBC's People of the Year" TV special. Dr. Conrad Murray is set to resume office hours Monday at his Armstrong Medical Clinic in Houston, attorney Edward Chernoff told The Associated Press. Cruise and Diaz were not at Sunday's rehearsal. The actors are scheduled to arrive in the city of Cadiz in southwest Spain for the filming of the "Knight & Day" movie next weekend. Two unidentified women were slightly injured by the bulls as they broke free from the downtown location and ran through streets to a nearby beach. It was not immediately clear if the women had anything to do with the film.

Comedian Stephen Colbert Goes Bobsledding

Comedian Stephen Colbert took the "Night Train" and it nearly left him speechless. Colbert donned a reddish-orange racing suit Sunday and went on a ride with U.S. bobsled driver Steven Holcomb. He was in the black sled that Holcomb had just driven to the four-man World Cup gold medal at Mount Van Hoevenberg. With the crowd at the finish line chanting his name, Colbert hopped into the third slot normally manned by Steve Mesler and tucked in tight between Justin Olsen and brakeman Curtis Tomasevicz. About a minute later, Colbert emerged unscathed but breathing hard.

'New Moon' Wolfs Down $140.7M In Opening Weekend

The vampire romance "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" sucked up $140.7 million in its first three days and pulled in a total of $258.8 million worldwide, according to studio estimates Sunday. The No. 1 domestic debut for Summit Entertainment's "New Moon" was more than twice the $69.6 million haul over the same weekend last year for "Twilight," the first in the franchise based on Stephenie Meyer's novels. "Obviously, with the success of 'Twilight' itself, sequels being what they are will generate X-number of dollars more, particularly if it's a satisfying sequel," said Richie Fay, head of distribution for Summit.

Racette's Angelica A Triumph At Met Opera

Patricia Racette had just sung her moving final notes in "Suor Angelica" and fallen to the stage. Around the Metropolitan Opera House, a significant segment of the audience was sniffling and wiping away tears. Her shattering performance as the nun was the highlight of the night and one of the high points of her career.

Who Is Oprah's Heir Apparent In Daytime?

Will it be Ellen DeGeneres, Dr. Phil or Dr. Oz? Maybe none of the above. The announced shutdown of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in two years creates room for a new queen (or king) of daytime television. Until that day when Winfrey's 7 million or so daily viewers start looking for something else to do, preparing to claim that audience will be one of the biggest competitions in television. "You haven't had a time period like this open up in 25 years," said Larry Gerbrandt, an analyst for the firm Media Valuation Partners in Los Angeles. "It really gives the players a chance to reshuffle the deck."

Rare Charles Darwin Book Found On Toilet Bookshelf

An auction house says it is selling a rare first edition of Charles Darwin's "On the Origin of Species" found in a family's guest lavatory in southern England. The book will be auctioned on Tuesday, the 150th anniversary of the publication of the famous work.
