Airlines Offering Last-Minute Holiday Travel Deals

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Travel experts say airlines don't usually offer great deals the week before Thanksgiving. But this year, consumer who procrastinated will be rewarded.
Airlines are offering deals even though fewer planes will be flying. The goal is to get consumers to fill those empty seats.
"You never knew when they were going to come down so you just booked knowing, and we'll deal with it then," said traveler Scott Neal. "I am glad they are coming down."
In Dallas,
BestFares.com officials say they've been seeing 82 percent off fares as compared to what they were seeing just 6 weeks ago.
"I paid $88 for a trip from Kansas to Philadelphia," said traveler Stephen Donohue. "I never thought I would see it that low."
The key to saving big is flexibility. There are certain dates to avoid, like a few days before the Thanksgiving or the Christmas holiday and days after.
Southwest Airlines is offering a deal if you book by November 20 for travel on Dec. 9 through Feb. 28.

If there is time to do research, visit various travel deal Web sites as well as the airline sites to compare the prices. Remember to not only look at the price of the ticket, but the end amount after taxes and fees are added.
