Money Saving Offers At The State Fair Of Texas

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― The state of the American economy has many thinking differently, when it comes to entertainment. Now many families want to have a good time and save money.

This year visitors to the State Fair of Texas can take advantage of some money saving offers.

The 122nd State Fair of Texas is set to start on Friday.

"We're bringing some very great value to the State Fair of Texas," says Sue Gooding.

Vendors are preparing to whip up economical treats - everything from Cuban sandwiches, and crazy bananas, to cabinitos.

Even Big Tex looks like a million bucks, in his new Dickies jeans.

State fair workers are setting the stage for a lot of free fun. "Semis rolling in with tons of dirt, to start building our off road coarse road," explained Jim Ashmore with the Chevy Driving Experience display. "We'll have lots of things to do."

The fair is in tune with the economy, and dancing to the beat of economic admission alleviation –or to put it simply, getting you in the gate for free or at a reduced rate.

"We continue to offer complimentary tickets to students within 100 miles of the fair," Gooding says.

- On Dr. Pepper Tuesdays you can get in the fair for $3 with an empty Dr. Pepper can, and most rides are at reduced rates.

- On Wednesdays, if you bring three canned food items, for the North Texas Food Bank, admission is only $1.

- On Thursdays you can bring a 20 oz Coca-Cola bottle and get in for $4, versus the usual $14 admission price.

While finishing touches are being put on the state fair, there are lots of different ways to save on your trip to see Big Tex and all the big toys.

Gooding suggests that you, "pack a lunch, come out to our many rest spots, and just enjoy a family picnic before you head out to those great exhibits, the auto show, or some of the free shows."

The State Fair of Texas begins Friday, Sept. 26th, and runs for 24 days.
