N. Texas Sale Offers Deep Back To School Discounts

Back to school clothes for 70 percent off! School supplies and backpacks for just a few dollars! Sound too good to be true? In this 'Survive in '09' report, we'll show you it is true, but you have to know where to go to find the deals.
Ann Beller of Dallas knows that in today's economy, saving money can be a challenge. "We've got four kids and we're living off of one income, but we make it work," she explained.
Beller has figured out a way to outfit her kids, from head to toe, every season for up to 90-percent off retail.
"You've got to make the income work for your family and this is just one of those slam dunk ways to make your income stretch," said Beller.
Beller shops at the bi-annual "Just Between Friends" Consignment Sale. She calls it Babies R Us on steroids. Rowlett moms Susan Newhouse and Stacey Losher started the Just Between Friends sales in Dallas in 2003 with just 37 consignors.
"Each sale, we just got bigger and bigger," Losher said. "At our past sale in spring, we had 750 families that participated."
This year, they've moved their fall sale up two months to help parents who are strapped for cash get their kids ready for the school year.
"In a bad economy, it's just what people need," Newhouse explained. "They need to be able to save money."
During the four-day sale, the Mesquite Rodeo Exhibit Hall will be transformed into a massive store.
From clothes and shoes to other back-to-school essentials like backpacks and supplies, Newhouse says don't wait until tax-free weekend to find a good deal. "The items you're going to get at our sale are 30%-90% off the retail price which is much more of a discount than just the tax free."
The organizers say don't worry about the quality of the products either.
"You're not going to come to this sale and find stained or torn items," Losher said. "All the items go through inspection so you know you're going to get the best of the best."
For Ann Beller, it's all about finding quality goods for kids without breaking her budget. "It's absolutely the best kept secret in Dallas, especially for moms," she said.
The Just Between Friends Consignment Sale runs from July 30th - August 2nd at the Mesquite Rodeo Exhibit Hall. Thursday through Saturday the store hours are 10am - 8pm. On Sunday, the hours are 12pm - 6pm. On Sunday, all items in the shop will go for half off; offering even more discounts than before.
